Default Alarm VATS

Does anyone know where my alarm system may be located and how hard it would be to get at it? I'm guessing it's probably somewhere behind the dash?? It doesnt appear to be in plain sight. I have a viper aftermarket alarm that the previous owner installed in place of the factory alarm. The problem is it stopped automaticlly locking and unlocking the doors with the remote but it still sets or removes the alarm. The auto locks do still work though, just not with the remote. About two weeks ago it's started working correctly again for about 24 hours then it stopped. I'm trying to figure out the model of the alarm so I can track down a manual or get some further info to solve the problem. Unless someone knows what the problem may be. Is there some typical troubleshooting things to try with a viper alarm? Resetting the remote? Could it just be a button combination to recalibrate it? Thats why I need the model number to get a manual. I checked out the cars PCM file yesterday the VATS is dissabled. Should it be dissabled? It's been not working for almost 9 months now. I may just have to get a new alarm but didnt want to throw away the money if it's an easy fix.

Thanks

Hi
I have a Viper installed on my '90 along with the motion sensor and the VATS is still enabled with no problems as of yet. I have model # 690XV. For more information on the Viper you could contact the mfr at (800) 274-0200 or on the web at www.directed.com. The mfr of the Viper alarm system is a company called Directed Electronics out of Vista Ca.
I hope this helps to sort out your problem.
Good Luck
Gary

Did you ever figure this out? My 91 is doing the same thing. I got this car approx. 3 weeks ago, Viper alarm along with factory alarm. Viper will not lock the doors, will unlock. BUT, that would start the factory alarm to go off. Not sure what to do.

If the alarm is tripping when you open the doors after the keyless unlock, then your viper isn't wired up correctly. Why anyone would attempt to wire into the factory alarm is beyond me.

Actually it isn't beyond me, I wired a keyless system into my factory alarm. It's a total bitch, requires lots of extra relay logic to make it work right. Nothing a circuit chity tech is going to do. You'll need the factory electrical manual and the viper install manual to get it straightened out.

Sorry forgot to post back. It was finally fixed when my NOS kit was being installed. The mechanic found a loose wire under the steering column around the firewall area when he was running some other wires through. It fixed the problem and the locks work perfect now with the alarm. Except the doors lock and it only clicks and doesnt beep the horn like it is supposed to. This happens off and on. Again I wonder if it's something I'm doing on the remote. Because sometimes when the alarm goes off it starts working for a week then it will stop again. Maybe another loose wire. Stupid Alarm!

Thanks
