i did one on my 91 which is an L98 i do remember reading on how it would be hooked up to a LT1 and i think that there is a harness from MSD i mounted mine under the driver side headlight
The MSD certainly cannot hurt, but unless you are spraying nitrous or supercharged, you might not need it. The stock system seems to do very well, even for highly modified heads and cam cars running 11's!
it took me a few hours to do, i didn't have the harness as i bought it off of a guy that was running it on a mustang, so i pulled the distributer and cut the wires and installed quick disconnects on everything to match up in the event that the MSD failed i could go back to the stock coil in a few minutes even on the side of the road
in this picture you can see the wires from the MSD red and white, its real straight forward, run a power wire, ground, and two wires from the stock harness and two from the MSD to the coil.
also if you look closely you can see where i tapped in for the shift light.
Also this is just after i finished the install and hadn't finished trimming for the quick disconnects, this is hooked up with straight splices to make sure it worked
