I have an '89 convertible. The right rear latch to the lid id stuck. How do you free it, or what could have went wrong. Thank you, Sam the man.

If I recall correctly, my '94 has a manual release on each of the two storage compartment lid latches. I'd guess your '89 would, too. Check your owner's manual for details.

If your '89 is like this, try adjusting the release cable here. You turn it by hand.

It didn't occur to me at first to ask this, but are you saying the storage compartment lid can't be released and raised, or that the convertible top can't be released from the storage compartment lid?

Be well,

I just re-read your post. I don't know how to get it to release if the deck lid to body latch won't release. It happened to me once. One side would not release. I just walked away from the car. Came back later and it worked. I'm going to go outside and look at mine, and see what I can come up with.

Ok. Here's what you can do. Poke your head in from under the deck lid and remove these two nuts. That will leave the latch in place, but the deck lid will now be able to come open. Then you can figure out what's going on with the latch mechanism more easily.

Before you start removing fasteners, verify that there isn't a secondary, emergency release lever on the latch mechanism on your '89. I'm pretty sure my '94 has such releases. Check your owner's manual for info.

If there's no such release mechanism, removing the two nuts as 86pacer has suggested should get the job done, but you'll probably need to make sure everything's aligned/adjusted correctly when you put it back together again.
