Default Headlight Motor Removal

I am replacing the bushings in the headlight motor - seems easy enough if I get the electric motor out.

It was simple enough to remove the 3 bolts holding the motor to the engine hood after I stripped one of the torx bolt. But the problem is then getting the entire mechanism out - it seems to have a funny type of assembly to the headlight.

Is there a trick or explanation that someone can give - or is should I just bend over for a long time to try to figure it out. I just hate to bend over to for that long.

Thanks,

Barry Paul

Barry, I don't know what year your car is but on mine you need to remove the whole headlight assembly and then it is easy to remove the motor from the rest of the assembly. Good luck. Guy

On my 88' same as 85vetteguy said, the whole assembly comes off together, then work on taking it apart

Barry,
I just did mine, I agree with them, take the whole assembly out. Take the 2 or 3 10mm bolts loose and then there is a 13mm larger nut you will take out, undo the 2 plugs for the lights and the whole unit will come out. Be carefull not to scratch your lids and housing. You will see the torx bolts, remove them and the pin out of the rectagular peice. Undo the small 3 screws out of the base remove the cover. You will have to loosen the 2 screws on the round motor cover, but do not remove them, you will play hell getting it to go back in because of the bushings are spring loaded. Pull gear out might be alittle hard but will come out. Clean all the ground up crap in it and the gear. Put the bushings in and put all back together... Thats it your done... About 30 min's tops...

Good luck and hope this helps....
Pete

Once you remove the entire assembly there is a drift pin that attaches the motor to the rest of the assembly.

Hope your replacing the bushings in both motors. I didn't and wished I had. Now I have to order the parts and do the other one.
