I wonder if you weren't the victim of sulfur contamination?

Sulfur has contaminated gasoline pumped at filling stations in many states, causing a range of problems in cars, including broken gas gauges.

A lawsuit filed in 2004 sought class-action status for Florida drivers and $100 million in damages from Shell and its refiner.

There was another lawsuit filed that same year against Ashland Oil Company in Lexington, Ky. Many motorists that filled up at Speedway Stores (formerly SuperAmerica) had fuel-related problems.

Like others have said, keep watching your local news to see if other motorists are reporting problems from that station.

I will have to keep an eye out because its going no where with the station. The workers seem to have no clue and I cant seem to get a number of someone higher in the chain.

At least after all that, the car is even better than before.

I can't believe how responsive the car is again. I am going to go for a nice little spirited drive on my lunch break. I really hope I can find the means to keep it, but if something doesn't come up in a couple weeks I might have to sell it. 4 years and 60k later I am so attached to it I don't know how I could get rid of it.
