My 92 six speed will idle at 1100 rpm if I put it in neutral and coast. As soon as the speedometer goes to zero it drops to 700. Is this just a speed density thing? Even when I have the clutch down and stop on the street it won't idle down until it comes to a dead stop. I thought it may be dropping when I applied the brake but not so. It isn't a big deal but one of those annoying things I'd like to see go away.
My 91 l98 6spd does a simalar trick. Only it seams to drop off after a while. It appears to be part of the shut down to avoid to many green house gasses.
I would try reseting the idle and checking out the IAC valve.
Bogus is right. Don't mess with it. It is there to assure you have enough engine vacuum to operate brakes, load or unload the drivetrain, turn on the A/C, etc.
Can I make the assumption that the programming in the ECM is only for stick shift and not for a auto transmission? If that is true, then some code in the chip is different.
Would that then mean that the ECMs were not interchangeable with the differnet transmissions?
It's the throttle follower programming in the computer (I have a couple of 93 LT1 vehicles so I'm somewhat familiar). It will really come into play once modifications are done that would cause a detraction from idle vacuum. The throttle follower can be programmed to hold it (the idle) up higher until a complete stop to give better vacuum for brake operation.
Thanks again for all the input. As a muscle car era guy I will never get used to quick rapping and quick to idle like an old holley does. However, I do enjoy the 30mpg which is twice what my old SS396 did on it's best days.
