I have a 1986 Corvette that has a blower fan speed control problem. The problem is that only the high speed works. I tried changing the switch to no avail. i then tried a new set of resistors also with no luck. I also checked the continuity in the wires between the switch and the resistors and everything checked out OK. Is there something I missed or something else I could check? My dealer told me that the motor itself could be at fault. Is this possible if the high speed works? It does not have the electronic climate control. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
this looks like your Blower Relay could be stuck in stuck in the High Speed Position (but it would blow continually), or more likely the low speed contacts in the relay are burned OPEN.
the Blower Relay services Lo, M1 and M2 when in one position and services Hi alone, while in the other.
to test this thought you could pull the relay and jumper DarkBlue to Purple, then ignition on and try the selections (everything but Hi should work).
Blower Relay (5 wires) - Orange Red DarkBlue Black Purple - righthand front of dash above Blower Motor (1989).
as far as your Blower Motor goes, it's the same motor winding for all speeds so if it works in one speed i'd suspect it was suitable for the alternate speeds.
if you like i can e-mail you a schematic and it may make more sense.
Between the blower motor and the resistors on the right side of the firewall when you are sitting in the car. I changed the relay and I now have all the speeds back!
