I found a vac leak today. It is in the aluminum tubing located on the drivers side just above the valve cover. This is the vac for the PVC. My problem is starting at the intake manifold there is a rubber hose that connects to the aluminum tube. The tube goes toward the front of the engine (only about 8-9" long). The PVC hose and PVC connects about half way down the tube. My leak is in the end of the tubing close to the alternator. There is a hole about the size of a pencil eraser. Is a hose connect here or what? When I put my finger over the end of the tube the engine want to die. I feel I'm not getting full vac to the PVC . Any help will be appreciated.
EDIT: I have the FSM and don't see anything about this.
the end of that tubing should have a hose from the charchol canister by the drivers side turn signal side marker area.
I disconnected mine and tucked the hose behind the tubing the runs inside the fender well, and it looked so good I couldnt find it after a few weeks of not getting back to the project - i put a bypass cap on the end of the pipe you refer to as a hole - its actually a nipple ( if we're talking bout the same thing) - mine never ran better or worse with it disconnected
I just went to town and bought a rubber cap for it. I put my finger over it and it didn't die just lowered the RPM's. I drove it for about 10miles round trip. It didn't idle up and down anymore and overall drove good. If this fixed it the only problem I have now is rich exhaust.
The complete elimination of the charcoal canister system especially helped my idle during a warm start up. I plugged the 2 vacuum ports on the TB. The vacuum port on the bottom of my TB was also shared by the EGR so don't be surprised if you get an EGR code if your ECM isn't tuned to ignore it.
I find this totally wierd..my 87 is totally stock, that metal tube comes from the intake just in front of the second to last injector...drivers side,
comes forward to where the PCV connects, a little beyond, and mine has no place for a hose, and my cannister has all vac. lines connected.
I've looked through the FSM for a clear picture and cannot see anywhere that's shown...is an 87 different than an 86? I kinda doubt it.
Any pictures?
The PCV still had vacuum with the end open. I could put my finger over the pvc and it sucked to my finger.

I have just got it capped for now. The 86 FSM didn't show a picture either.
The 86 and 87 are different. 87 takes the fumes from charcoal canister via the TB and the 86 takes it from the intake manifold. The PCV and the charcoal canister share that aluminum tube going into intake base.
