Default 89 Convertable air / heater control unit electrical issues

Hey gang....

I am new to the site, but am very glad I found it. I need some guidance regarding my vette....

1.) My heater / air condition control unit only works part time. Usually the tempature is dim to the right side of the numeric display. If I push any button, it begins to flash. Last time I drove my it, the control unit didn't even work. I later re-started the car and it was back to its usual self. My question is, is the unit bad or do I have a wiring problem? I have found heater / air condition control units on line and from GM, but they are only for coupes. If replacing the unit is the correct action, will the coupe heater / air condition control unit work for me?

2.) They other issue I have is that occasionaly, the car runs very rough after starting. It does not matter if it is cold or hot. Usually the check engine light comes on. If I give it any more the 1/8 throttle, the car dies. It usually runs rough for about 1 - 3 minutes, then the rpms shoot up to normal and I am good to go. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for help.
