Default Temp set button on AC

The left side, temp lowering, side of the Temp Set button on my 94 is not working. I can increase the temp but not lower it. When it does this I can't control the Off, Auto, and recirculate buttons, either. However, sometimes after the car's been shut down, it will work long enough for me to lower the temp. I called the local dealer's part shop. They said the whole AC/Heat control unit needs to be replaced, not just the button, for over $200.00 for the unit. I just read the post about cleaning the contacts. If that doesn't work, what are my options besides riding around with my heater on in NM and AZ over the summer.

I have the temp set at 68 and don't plan on touching it for now. That's the cheapest and laziest option, but I like my gizmos to work.

Default well..

If you read my other post, and are willing, try smashing the unit with your hand... try a light slap on the side first, and work your way up to about a 50% power punch. It's the only way I can get mine to turn on/off. But once you get it set the right way, leave it

Try cleaning the contacts first. IF that doesn't work, replace the control unit. They can be found online for about $175 and you can install it yourself, not hard.

Default Thanks

I've been away from the internet awhile; so I'm just getting around to thanking you. I haven't had to do a 50% power punch yet, but getting there. I'll try the cleaning first.

My first recommendation would be to clean the connections on the rear of the controller as the others suggested. I found this problem before I ever got on the Forum. That fixed mine and I got lucky.

The other problem with it is bad internal solder connections. I have read some extensive articals on this. It will take a elevated skill level of soldering and electronics repair (as indicated bt artical). I myself have not been into this all though well qualified. From what I remember, the connections between the main board and the front panel is where the problems are. If you go there, best of luck.
