On my '88 Vert I put the key in to back it out of the garage this morning. Turning the key to fire the ignition felt a "bit stiffer" than usual. Backed her out, turned her off, put her in reverse to turn the ignition to the lock position and remove the key.....
BUT the cylinder will not turn back into the lock position and I can't remove the key unless I can get it into the lock position.
I have tried pushing the key in, pulling it out a bit, and wiggling it as I try and turn the cylinder to the lock position.... all to no avail....
Hs anyone experienced this and can you tell me how to fix it.
I suspect it is either a cylinder issue or an interlock
(car does not think it is in reverse)
Other than that, the car starts fine and shuts off. I just can't lock the ignition or remove the key...
Had the exact same thing happen to my 94 Chevy Silverado. I pulled the fuel injection fuse to stop the engine and then disconnected the battery. Went to Napa and got a new ign. cylinder with keys for about $25. There was no airbag to deal with, so getting into the steering coulmn was pretty easy. You will need a steering wheel puller and a steering wheel lock plate tool. Neither are very expensive.

I had the problem with my 93. When I adjust the Tilt the key comes right out. So anytime it happen I just adjust it...
Is your vette a 4+3? If so a securety feature only allows the key to come out in reverse. Which isn't a bad thing since your car can't roll away if you forget the emergeny brake.
