Default A/C problems after disconnecting battery

Everytime I disconnect the battery the A/C completely freaks out when I reconnect it. The Auto fan setting won't work. When I'm driving a little cold air will come out of the vents but once I stop, so does the air. So the A/C is working just not the auto fan. I can adjust the fans and it works, until all of a sudden it desides to blast 90degree air at me, then the cold air kicks back in. It usually does this for about a week before it starts working right again. Any clue as to a way to keep this from happening, to reset the Auto A/c, or is it just my vette? Thanks.

I disconnect my battery alot but my controller always returns to a default setting. Once I press a button or two things are back to my normal settings. Sounds like your controller has some problems of it own. Can you change the led lights by pressing the buttons or does it change by itself. I'm not sure in your case if cleaning the rear connectors will help your problem.

I can change the settings just fine. It's the auto fan function thats just dead. It defaults to 0, but I can set it on 0-10 just fine. Once the fans start blowing it will randomly start blowing out hot air, then go right back to cold. It will do it about 4-5 times in a 15 minute ride. The electrical system was worked on about 3 times within the first year (96-97) with the complete dash taken out twice. It's only recently done this a couple of times over the past couple of years. I've started playing with the car more so it has become more of a factor these past few months. Thanks.

After the Processor (Programmer or Control Panel depending on Year) loses it's memory, it has to relearn a couple of things to work right - mostly, how much time it takes to move the temp door in one direction and then how much time it takes to move it in the other. It needs to know this so that it can move the door to the correct position based on what you've selected on the Control Panel and the inputs from the inside and outside temp sensors. SO, when you plug it back in and hit the Auto Button, it moves the door from fully open to fully closed (listen closely and you might hear it) and while it's doing this little test, nothing works - including the a/c compressor or blower motor. Takes anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes on most units (according to everything I've read - mine takes about a minute). Once it's completed, display will usually be at the default temp - somewhere in the '70's - and you should be able to put it wherever you want it. I usually just sit in garage and wait for it to come back on, but there's no harm in driving it while it does it's thing.
