Have a 89 that is giving me code 13 and 44.can't get car through emissions. Question is, I changed the 02 sensor on the drivers side but this code is reading as follows 13 =oxygen sensor 0s2 circuit open-left side on two sensor system and 44 oxygen sensor os2 left sideon 2 sensor systemlean exhaust indicated
Will this make the car run and then seem to miss? And where is the other sensor?

89 only has one O2 sensor. From what I have read you have a open/short in you O2 circuit. I would check connection at the ECM and at the O2 sensor. BTW where did you get the 13 and 44 info from? The O2 sensor only effects running condition after it starts sending signal to the ECM (closed loop). A bad circuit or sensor will make the car idle and run rough (rich or lean). The exhaust has to get to 600*f and engine temp around 140*to go into closed loop. At long enough idle it will switch between open and closed loop frequently. If you have headers they make a three wire O2 sensor that is heated to make the ECM stay in closed loop more than open loop.
Have you tried to disconnect the battery or take the ECM fuse out to reset the codes? If you used a good O2 sensor and still getting the codes, then wiring would be the next step. The Chiltons will give some info but is not year specific and doesn't cover the proper troubleshooting steps. To correctly find and fix the problem you will need a 89 FSM (factory service manual). You might pm Agent86, and he would probably be glad to send you the troubleshooting diagram, from a 86 which is about the same, for the code 13 and 44. With that info it will be easy to find the problem. Yes, incorrect O2 signal to the ECM will make the emissions way off.
