I have a 92 LT1 car and I am about to build up a cable to connect my laptop to my ALDL. I know there is a lot of free scanning software out there. Can anyone recommend one that works well with the 92? Thanks.
This is one site with some good information. It shows both common circuits, the 2 transistor and the MAX232. I have built them both. The MAX 232 does put out more of a standard level signal. I only have got 1 program to operate on my 94. The MAX232 made the program work better (more normal and stable) but the two transistor did work. The serial 232 output levels are just not regulated as well. Your 92 has more programs available for usage. I could not run programs that you will be able to so my scope of programs was less.
I have some other links but have to find them, check the home page, and whole site. I will put links in this post if I find them.
Check out Moate's circuits, the same but slightly different, additional infor. I did try the RS232 plug wrap around wiring. It essentially ties the ready to send and receive lines to that no time outs occur. I saw no differnece for me.
Have a look here: http://www.ttspowersystems.com/DM_Software.htm
and youll be wanting the "DM35xDA - Complete Installation". DataMaster is a pretty good program and will tell you pretty much all you need to know as far as sensors and DTC codes go.
