Don't wash the engine until you get some advice on how to do it properly here. The distributor can be ruined by getting sprayed.
Make sure, before you do anything to your Vette, you make a point to come to CorvetteForum, and ask these very knowlegable Vette owners, any questions you might have. In all likelyhood, there are many Vette owners here on the forum who can best assist you on making very good decisions versus costly trials.
Keep in mind...these folks have probably already been,
where you want to go.

Always buy your battery at Walmart. I bought a battery about 12 years ago (different car). Battery has a 3 year, full replacement guarantee. About every 2 1/2 years it starts to turn the car over slower, so I return it. They give me a new battery, with a new guarantee. So, I've had 5 batteries, only paid once...
Make darn sure you measure you key pellet, write down the VATS#, and put it in place you can remember! <The best advice you'll ever get here>
And Lastly, Welcome to the club....
