I have a 93 LT-1 with 60k miles, the other day I took a 200 miles round trip with my father in-law. I filled up with Amoco Super, I normally use Shell. But anyway when I went to the store the next day I notice the car would idle rough, turn the A/C on the car would idle a little better because the ECM is telling it to increase the idle speed. Do you guys think I need to clean my injectors? I think I am going back to Shell.
I have a 92 LT1. The previous owner used Texaco supreme religiously. I wanted to use Chevron w/techron...so I did. Car began to do exactly what you describe...sometime fine, sometime embarrassing. I went to a knowledgeable mechanic freind of mine and he Motovac'd the engine. If you haven't heard of this, they disconnect the fuel lines at the fuel rails and connect them to a machine that uses a high detergent fuel, let it idle for a while, then increase rpm...back to idle...rpm, etc. Takes about an hour all together....cleans fuel rails, injectors, valves, rings, combustion chamber, top of the pistons...all of that stuff. WILL NOT HURT YOUR ENGINE. every since I had it done, my car runs like a champ. Stone cold idle, builds rpms faster, all of that. Cost me $100...well worth it.
My theory is, when you change fuels, you may also may be changing the amount of detergent you're adding....breaks stuff up...clogs stuff up. My next venture will be to change the fuel filter...if the rest of the system was that messy...you gotta figure the filter needs changing.
