this is my first thread on here about my new car, it's an 85 vette, obviously, but anyways I was informed this morning that my drivers side headlight was open, so I went out and manually twisted the **** to shut it, pulled the swith and they both open up just fine but when I push the switch in only the passenger side shuts and when I feel the drivers side headlight it actually rocks back and forth like it's not in place on the gears, I hope that last part makes sense, but any ideas? gears? bushings? power?
thanks in advance!!! I hope to figure it out soon

I believe you need the bushings for both lights. Mine did the same thing and had to replace the bushings. The gears that holds the bushings were ok. Not sure about the 85 though but you can go to Ecklers.com to finds everything you need. Welcome to the addiction.
another question, at the bottom of the motor there is a little nozzle that sticks out like an inch and a half, is there supposed to be a vacuum hose or something on that?
Forget Ecklers. Do a little searching and you can find the part number for some bushings from Lowe's. It's a 35 cent fix! Just takes a little time and patience. I wish I had the part number for you to make it easier, sorry.
Oh yeah, check the FAQ sticky at the top of this section. Look for tech tips, it'll probably be in there.
And give this a look see! It's for the 88-96 headlight some of the priciples are the same! My wife and I did the headlight bushing change in about a hour and a half start to finish. You'll be able to do it as well.
This magazine article will help and it also has other tech articles that will help you out. go to www.corvettemagazine.com and click on the upper right corner in the box "New search corvette magazine" and follow thw drop down boxes there are a lot of articles for your car. This one is under Tech articles Body and our years or generation! Have fun! They have some articles on engine mod's for your Vette!
This magazine is associated with ZIP products and you can find your bushings for about five bucks! and they will the right part from the get go! I got mine from there too!
This subject comes up often and more often than not many replies address the later motors bushings and gears. The later motors don't share in any way the same problems the earlier motors have, they are two entirely different motors. Most of the time, the problem with the early motors are the armature brush contacts or the limit switch contacts. These areas load up with carbon and grease which prevents the motor from operating properly. Often, simply removing the motor, disassembling it and cleaning all the brush and contact surfaces fixes the problem. I use a razor blade between the armature sections and 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper to clean the contacts. I also use the 3M red scotchbrite pad to clean the armature. After it's cleaned I spray it down with contact cleaner and reassemble. The so-called rebuilt motors aren't really rebuilt, they're rehab units. There are no replaceable parts made for the early motors so many of the rebuilders are simply cleaning and swapping parts to make good motors. They can easily warranty these motors for 30-90 days because they will last at least that long when cleaned up.
Here's a link with a pics on repairing/cleaning the early motors. It's a pretty good writeup. I keep it in my bookmarks for posts like this one. http://automobiletest.com/service/19...ghts/index.htm

This is a drain tube to let moisture out. There are no hoses attached to it.
Thanks everyone for the responses, I took it off this afternoon, opened it up, cleaned it all nice and good and now it runs just like it did before VERY NICE!!!!
