Default Which module is which???

What is the ignition module in the distributer called? Ignition module? Can it be checked to see if it is working properly? Is there an aftermarket upgrade for it?

The module on the side of the A/C blower box is called what? EST module? Can it be checked?

Where does the knock sensor input to? Direct to the ECM or in to a module?
I am sorry for so many questions. Thanks in advance for the replys.

The one in the distributor is the ignition module. You can have it bench checked, but it's not a reliable test at all. When I had my 92 Z28 I had a hard/no start condition along with it dying when I let off the gas...both were VERY intermittent. I first suspected the ignition system and either bench checked or replaced everything having to do with spark. Two different parts stores said it was good. Make a long story short; about $800 later (fuel pump, computer, multiple sensors, etc, etc) problem still persisted. Someone clued me in that the check-out of the module is CRAP. Replaced the module and problem went away. If you suspect a bad module, just spring for the $25-$30 and get a new one.

On my '85 the one located on the right side of the engine compartment is called the Electronic Spark Control (ESC) Module. I'm not sure if it can be bench checked or not. According to my Helms manual, the knock sensor goes directly to the ESC module.
