Default Would this be possible?

I am getting into the chip programming and have been wondering if this would be possible and if anyone has done it? My question is could you "relocate" our memcal via long wires to eliminate the need to take the computer down out every time you make an adjustment. This may or may not be possible because of electric resistance introduced because of the added wire. Also the transmission time might be altered. I am no electric wiz and hence the reason for the question. I would be very interested in hearing why or why not this is/isn't possible. Thanks a bunch.

Some people mount a remote ZIF socket attached to the memcal by a ribbon cable.

I believe the EPROM is PMOS which sinks enough current to drive a few feet of ribon cable. Just don't mix any wires when you terminate the cable ends. Do you want to extend the MemCal or just the EPROM socket?

You might just let the ECM hang (or rest it in a padded cardboard box) with the hush pannel off and a jumper wire from it's case to mounting chassis. This would be not quite as convenient but easier and quicker and you would just bolt it up when done with test & tune.

Some guys have done it although, you are now introducing some signal delay into the original design. When a PC Board is made there is a lot of calculating doen to verify that signals meet certain speed criteria. Try. it may work and it may not work. Another thign you could do, is buy a junk ECM and make an ECM extension cable and mount the ECM under the Passenger seat, I believe some on here did that. this way all you need to do to get to the PROM is pull out the bottm seat cushion on the Pass side
