Just replace injectors in an 87 L98. I used for racing blue top injectors....i think they are 24 lbs?? Anyway the car now has a loud tick that sounds almost like a plug wire is burned and shorting out against the header(had that happen before) BUt i have checked all spark and i see nothing(in garage with light turned out). I guess my question is do these injectors tick loudly? maybe i have a bad one from the get go? I have to go to work tomorrow and this is the car i am taking as the 'other' car is not hooked up yet. Anyone have these injectors?
alot of injectors you can hear them ticking..some very loud, take a short piece of hose, hold it to your ear and check each injector...if you find one, you may get lucky by lightly tapping it.
I tried tapping them and i tried to move them up a little while in place because i heard that some injectors can bottom out. Didnt help much and the ticking is consistent with RPMs. I am going to see about the valve train a little later tonight.
You should be able to grab the injector and feel the ones that tick, they will vibrate. See if the ones that do are bottemed by moving it up and down. Some are noisey but that doesn't mean they are bad. I don't like the spam noise either.
Ya i tried to move them up and down and i could feel some of them ticking but to no avail. I guess i will have to add that noise to the many that come from under there....(intake hiss etc.)
Yes, the FMS injectors do have a rather loud audible clicking noise. Nothing to worry about as this is just one of the characturistics of their injectors, which are made by Bosch.
My 42#'ers tick mercilessly. I was considering installing 1/8" washers as shims under the fuel rail since I'm running the TPIS Big Mouth intake (they suggest that in some instances and the injectors can bottom out, but also to eliminate some of that pulse noise). A few members have done that here and say that it works quite well.
