Default Alternator mounting question

Ok, on an '87 L98, you have three points of mount for the Alternator:

1. Power Steering Bracket
2. Bracket coming from the Smog Pump
3. Bolted to the Exhaust Manifold

Now...say you have headers and you can no longer bolt up that third mount? I spent a whole lot of time jerry rigging the oil dipstick tube to work and the alt is going to be a lot more work...

In all theory, the two mounts are plenty enough...I've wiggled and yanked and pushed and pulled and it feels about as steady as an alternator can be...

Those with headers, what'd you do with your alternator? Thanks.

I don't have headers. But I do have the smog pump eliminator. With it installed it moves the alternator closer to the L/F wheel, thus making the exhaust manifold bracket too short. Doesn't seem to be a problem.

Well on my 1990 with the TPIS Headers, they used the stock bolts. The stock Alternator burned up 1200 miles later. I am wondering if that rear bar/bracket is transfering high heat to back of alternator where the board of diodes are, that regulate the voltage. When just switching to new reman unit I was wondering I could do away with that bracket too. Let us know if you throw a belt or wear the bearings on the Alt from pulling.

LPE Headers tell you you can leave the bracket off. I've had it off all summer, no problems.
