Default 86 window regulator

My motor died on my passenger side window. I ordered a new motor from the Dealer but it seems the motor is not right. I have what i believe is called a "Pancake motor" and the motor they gave me looks smaller and not as flat. I think these cars can take two kinds of regulators (I think). I have the older style with the pancake motor and ribbon. I see that Corvette Central has the newer complete unit for 269.00. Am i better off just replacing the entire unit with the newer style. Will it improve my windows roll up time? I usually start rolling up my windows a mile before i get home because it takes so long. Should I go new or buy one from a Corvette Junkyard?

I'd switch to the new style, there's alot of them in yards, and they don't have that bulky ribbon mech to break. I have both styles

Replace with the new style, the window goes up like lightning in comparison.

I had this problem on my former 86..the motor went dead and one of the ribbons snapped...almost did the upgrade but couldnt afford it at the time.Put a new motor and ribbon in,greased everything up on the tracks good and windows began to move a bit faster than before...that being said, theres no comparison with speed though should you upgrade.
The newer style is much better.

Some of the Vette salvage yards can sell you the entire regulator assembley and you can install new motors. The windows will fly up and down.
Unless you buy them used with used motors and theyre not as fast as they one were.

The newer regulator assemblys usually never fail, maybe a motor once in a while.Sometimes I wonder if a newer faster motor can be retrofitted to the old ribbon design..but havent seen anything on that.
Not sure if there would be any room or if the gears would even be able to run a ribbon.
Just a random thought.

Mine had a replacement ribbon when I bought it. I put new window felt on and the extra friction caused that ribbon to break a few days later. I tossed them in the garbage after that.
