5 spd Auto Trans?
Do we have any options as far as swapping any sort of 5 speed auto into an lt1 vette? I'd love to be able to have a built 5 spd, too much room between the 2nd and 3rd gear shiftpoints in my 4 spd.

I don't think any exist that will fit our car.
The only A5 I can think of is the one used in the latest RWD caddies... but I have no idea if those can be adapted.
The 4L60E and 4L65E was used in all sorts of high-torque GM rear drive cars, Corvette (up until recently), F-Bodies and GTO. Trucks used the 4L80E.
The latest vette uses a 6spd auto, but with the rear mounted transmission, I have no faith it would ever fit.

yea I'd kill to be able to fit one more gear in my 4L60E. i hate the idea of shifting out of second around 90 mph and not getting to the top of 3rd until 145+

they get away with it because of torque...
what rear gear do you have? It sounds like you have 2.59s, you might consider something taller than say, 3.45.
Or, upgrading to a D44 with 3.45s in it.

with 18 inch 315 rear tires and 3.45 rear gears with a 6500 rpm redline you're shifting from 2nd at 88 and 3rd at 143

A gearset is rumored to exist for the 700/4l60e that is similar to the turbo 350

I have not found the rumored gearset. I heard that a shop in the Bronx, New york has them for sale. I have not located them though. If I find a set, I will buy them and install them for r&d purposes. If anyone else knows how to get them, please post.

If it any clue, the lower (alternate) gear ratios for the TH400 were intended for a TH475 for trucks. Maybe there is some sort of a parallel situation for the 700R4. Of course, there always is the 200R4. It has a higher first gear and consequently, closer splits between the gears.

how easy is it to adapt a 200R4 into a C4? I have no recollection of someone doing this.

I would imagine it would be tough. The 2004r has no removable tailhousing. It is cast into the case.

I have a 5 speed auto in my Power Wagon(actually I'm told it's really a six speed with two second gears, how that happened I don't know).

Mojo - that 5spd is a pretty clever piece of Mercedes engineering.
It has an extra cog for downshifting, IIRC. I can ask my bud Travis, he can explain it for me.

Bruce Witherspoon discusses having a 200R4 in his L-98 C4 in the "drag suspension" post above for use in a NHRA specific class.

In that case, the L460E in my Chevy van has four third gears....and they are all a different ratio!!!
