Insanity has it also, it's a nice setup.

You can't race a Camaro in a Corvette only class for one thing.

Second, a stock Corvette drag races very well. The newer the car gets(in generations) the less apt it is at drag racing.

It's a sports car, sports cars are not usually good drag race machines, but the C4 does a very good job of it. WIth a Corvette, you can have a car that does it all, it may not shine in one particular area, but it can do it all. You can show it, drag it, road race it, commute to work, make it a daily driver, all in one package.

Some guys here want a dedicated drag machine, sometimes it's cheaper to convert what you have rather than buy another car.

I bought another car just for drag racing and I was going to buy a Camaro until it was pointed out that racing the Corvette Challenge would not be possible, and on the days when we have dual events, I wouldn't be able to bring both cars, so Corvette it was.

Putting a solid axle into a Corvette doesn't make it any less a Corvette. The Corvette had a solid axle from 1953-1962, and they had non hideaway headlights.

Here's a solid axle vette that isn't original anymore, but it's still a vette

Mr Mojo, good point on racing in corvette classes. I strongly agree with you about the all around capabilites of the C4 "show it, drag it, road race it, commute to work, make it a daily driver, all in one package" heck, i even delivered pizzas in mine at one point! but that is why i dont understand converting to straight axel, becasue you would loose the sports car handling aspect, which is the fun part, if you ask me. dont get me wrong, i am all about drag racing, but i wouldnt lose my handling for it. especialy when there is already a GM car out there that already has the vette engine and the live rear axel. it reminds me of people who convert LT1 camaros to LS1....just buy yourself an LS1 camaro. C5 body kits on C4s. am i rambling?

Ive owned both a Camaro and a Vette. I will never drive another Camaro again. Not even in the same class. I like the Vette, alot so I'm going to do what it takes for it to suite my purpose

I have owned 2 camaros and 2 vettes and i agree whole heartedly that the camaro and the vette are not even in the same class. the corvette is much more suited for turns and the camaro had a better set up for a purpose built drag car.

After trying to make the vette work for over 2 year i am giving up on it. i sold my bad a$$ Dana 44 , pulled the motor out and putting the car back to stock. The vette was good picking up chicks not to much on the drag strip. I had fun with the car , but with the money I spent and the motor I have I can be going 8s by now.

you can go 9s with a Dana 44, you just need jeb to put his magic touch .

Just out of curiosity...has anyone cryo-treated a 36? I just wanna go 11's or so not 8's or 9's. 60' times in the 1.6 to 1.7's. I have a Camaro that has gone 1.52's on the 7.5" 10 bolt. I'm really disappointed that these vette rears are so weak. I have since gone to a Moser 9" in the Camaro so that I can spray some more on the launch. 1.4's so far.

Very good question. I was pulling 1.5's on my 7.5 and my car was a pig. I just want to go mid to high 10's. I'm not trying to go all out. I see the track mabey 7 times a year, mabey more mabey less. I just wish there was a way to make the 36 strong enough to suite my purpose. What actually brakes when you lose a 36?
