Default Manual Rack...

Because I'm a lazy *** I didn't feel like doing a search for this topic...

Anyway, I know at least one or two people on here have had custom racks made for their vehicles... Who did it, and do you have your custom rack build sheet I could steal some dimensions off of? I ran my power rack for awhile with no power to it but recently gave it to Ramrod92 when his went out... I did so because I planned on installing a good Mustang II or Pinto rack in the '90; the problem is I need the measurements off of it. I have a Flaming River custom rack order form in front of me (I know I could fab everything but believe it or not it gets old having to build EVERYTHING) and I need some dimensions...

He fab'd my set up and ordered the rack plus the joints on the steering shaft, just tell him I sent you.

Good luck,

I have a wildwood rack in my car that rquired very minimal bracket fabrication. Uses the original steering shaft with the coupling that came with the gear. Can sen pics if you email me.

Bruce,

Did you check the toe change thru the whole travel or just set the alignment up with a slightly raised frontend position? When we first tried the Pinto style rack we found a lot of toe change with that width rack, so then a C4 width rack was ordered to correct the toe change.

Are you talking about bump steer, Dave? When you set a rack up in the car it needs to be done with the full weight in the front end (ie., engine or reasonable weight facsimile installed) and at ride height. The steering rods should be parallel at this checking point. If there is any angle to them it will create toe changes throughout the suspension travel; which sucks donkey ***** when the car comes down after launch and makes a nice dart to one side or the other... SCARY!!

Jeb,

That's exactly what I'm talking about and why I went to the custom width R&P the same dimensions as the Vette! At the other end when you let off/hit the brakes hard the same thing can happen, better a little extra spent ahead of time to stay safe!
