DR=Drive, that puts a load on it, I seldom do, and I time my 87 at 8* rather than 6, the EST wire is close to the wiper motor, brown and I forget, a single wire with a weather pack connection..disconnect it set timing, reconnect it and clear the code if set..just disconnect the negative terminal at the battery to clear codes.

I have a 89 too and I also set the timing to 8 deg BTDC (before top dead center). As stated above, make sure you disconnect the EST wire before you set the timing. I have set my timing in both drive and park and both of these yields the same timing.....my experience. You clear the codes by removing one battery terminal for about 30 seconds. I recommend you paint the notch in the vibration damper with white paint so that you can easily see the notch during the timing process. This is easily done by placing white paint on the end of a screwdriver and placing the point into the notch. Wipe away the excess paint and there you are.
