anyone else have a problem with a long crank before starting only when the engine is warm? i have an 88 z-51 and when it's cold it starts fine, but when it's warmed up it takes about 15 seconds to fire. i've replaced both relays behind the battery, the IAC, TPS, tested fuel pressure(o.k.),no leaky injectors, other than that she runs great. please help!!
Try holding the accelerator full down for say a half minute before turning the key to start up. If it then starts easily it could mean a leaking injector.
I just went through this a week ogo on this forum you can look back to 8/26 was the day I first posted But anyhow I have 27000 on the odo when I bought the car of the first owner he told me about it , but it has been getting worse when warm 88's are famous for this I guess if the owner complained enough gm replaced the bosch injectors with lucas and solved the problem.I too replaced the two relays behind battery according to tech notes in corvette fever but did not help. Also mine did not show leaking but I am convinced it is the injectors if you look back on all the correspondence I got you eill agree to. anyhow I have the lucas injectors on order should be in soon and installed whithin a week and I will post how I make out.I am pretty confident it will correct the long crank when hot problem. Good luck JIm

Mine ('85 L98) does the same thing; I stop cranking if it doesn't fire right away (as it does when cold), and try again. Always catches after 3 - 4 tries, max.
according to a gm mechanic I know the the dealership he worked at replaced alot of injectors on 85 to 88 camaro, firebird and vetts was a known problem within GM. But only done if the owners complained enough. Check it out I did and am convinced the new injectors will do the trick. Jim :yesnod:
I replaced my injectors with RC Engineering injectors (they are Lucas) and the problem was solved on my 90. It did start better hot if I gave it a little throttle when starting. Also, I moved the MAT sensor to the intake and that helped a little, but the injectors cured it.
