I am having issues with my ignition on my 95. I do not have a trusted mechanic to take my vette to and I do not want to pay $1300 for a tune-up thru some unscrupulous mechanic so my question is - Does anyone have any experience with a good, reliable, honest mechanic that works on vettes in the Austin area?
You can pm Gary"big_G" of Austin Corvettes over on the C3 Forum... He's one of the most knowledgable and helpful folks over there. If he can't help you, he would certainly know who can.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.
can you describe your ignition issues? Any error codes? I am in Austin, and I recently sold my '95. I did all work on car myself, and am quite familiar with this year vette. I have yet to meet a mechanic I can trust, especially with a Vette....
Well, first my car would seem to miss above 4500 rpms under load and occasionally would not start. A freind of a friend had a guy who supposedly did awesome LT1 work so I took my vette to him, bought an optispark and asked im to replace it and do a tune up. 3 weeks later, he gives my car back and it has a really roug idle, seems to miss at any rpm and does not have any power. I checked the wires and the order is correct, but after paying 400 for the opti and giving the guy about the same to do the work, I am down about $1000 and am worse off...

He's on North Lamar, by the BMW Motorcycle dealership...

Thanks for the info!

Ouch....did the mechanic dump the error codes to determine a bad Opti, or was this his intuition? You can easily get stored error codes yourself by shorting 2 pins together on your ALDL. I would first clear any stored error codes by disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 30 seconds. Then you use a piece of wire, or a paper clip to short pinA and PinB if you have the 12 pin connector or Pin4 to Pin12 if you have the 16 pin style connector.
Procedure for getting your error codes:
1- key out of ignition
2- Short the 2 pins together
3-key in ignition-turn ignition on-but no NOT start engine
4- first code will be C12- not error-sequence of error codes starts after this....
4-Error codes will begin to sequence and dispaly where your gas gauge is
5- write them all down
6- ignition off
7- remove shorting wire
report back error codes on this forum and we'll take it from there.
