Default Problems getting wiper blades to fit

I decided it was time to change the wiper blades on my '96 vert. Went by my local AutoZone and the counter guy said " get the Bosch, they stay down at speed" so I did. Took 'em home and stuck 'em on, hmm, no clearance under the hood. They rub enough to stall the wiper motor under the edge of the hood. What gives? I went back to the store and the next guy told me I should be usin' American blades so I exchanged for Anco, same deal. Any suggestions? I will add that I just bought this car and I can see that it has been repainted with some probable body work done to the doors, though the previous owner didn't offer any info in that regard.

Thanks for any tips,

Dave

I have the same problem... I took a grinder and grinded down the top of the wiper blade lol..

I was trying to find an adjustment to raise the hood a bit, but couldnt figure it out... that would be the thing to do I think. Maybe there is an adjustment at the latches?

The '96 has its own wipers for that year. You may want to call a salvage yard, get the frames and put some rubber wipers on there.

You might find relief with "Trico Exact Fit"

I ordered the Anco Aero Advantage Low Profile from autothing.com They have a low-profile wiper blade especially for C4 Corvette and Caddy XLR hoods.

http://www.autothing.com/Products/Wi...wiper-Main.htm

You can use the standard Anco refills from AutoZone or NAPA when it's time to replace, too.

Altho I haven't done it yet, I've read that the actual wiper blade itself (and probably the "frame" too) is what I'd call slim-line. Meaning your standard wiper blades won't fit, both arm and blade itself.

I'd say try 86's and one's suggestions. I know I will when the time comes!

Default Thanks for the tips

Called up the local AutoZone and asked for the low profile Anco blades and the guy said he never heard of 'em. Got on line and ordered from "autothing" and they are on their way. Wish I had a little patience because I then checked out the "Trico" site and discovered their "exact fit" blades are available at Advance Auto Parts. Oh well, I don't need two sets so I'll wait.

Thanks again for all the tips, that's what is great about this forum. No matter how small the item, folks out there always help out.

Should anyone else need the Anco low Profile Blades we sell them where I work and we have 200 locations across the country, always at an interstate interchange. Travelcenters of America (used to be called Truckstops of America long time ago). Our shops sell them (not the c-stores) and we identify them by our part number of 417-49. Hope this helps someone.

You'll be very happy with them. They are sturdier than the O.E.M. blades and you can use the standard Anco Aero Advantage refills when it comes time to replace.

Default Finally got some blades to fit.

Never a dull moment. I ordered replacement blades from autothing.com and waited two weeks for them to arrive. I then discovered they have a 3/16" mounting hole and the pin on the arm is 1/4". So I stopped in for a visit with my local Chevy dealers parts department. After listening to the "Genuine GM" parts speach, we ordered a set from GM. They arrived two days later and as soon as I got home I tried them out. Perfect fit, no bind, no rub, ahhh. The lesson I learned? If you can still get 'em from GM save up some cash and get the parts that fit. These blades cost almost twice the price as the over the counter blades at AutoZone but they fit. What's that over used saying about priceless?

Thanks for the advice everyone. I appreciate learning from the experiences of everyone here. And I hope others will benefit from our discussions.

I noticed that the ones from the parts stores didn't clear the hood either, so I paid $21 at the Chevy dealership and got exact fit and no issues, and plenty of clearance. I know lots of people do not like to here the "dealership" word, but some things in my opinion are best and easiest gotten there, for me anyways, my time and effort is worth more to me then hunting and calling and searching, and trying, and guessing... Just my opinion.

I ordered my blades from autothing.com and they fit my 1992 C4 perfectly. I see you have a C3. Is it possible they shipped you the wrong blade?

The Anco Aero Advantage from autothing.com I ordered was a low-profile wiper blade especially for C4 Corvette and Caddy XLR hoods.

Thanks for the comments onedef92. My picture is of the last vert I owned which was a '72 and I haven't gotten around to changing it to the '96 yet. I still kinda like that shot so I'm not sure when I'll get around to it. So, anyway, I discovered that '96 and I believe '95 hoods are slightly lower than previous years and that's where all the trouble started. I do wish when a parts vendor advertises a part for a particular model and year that they actually know if the part will fit. This experience should remind all of us that we have access to a world of knowledge here on the forum but we need to be aware that what holds true for one year may not go for all. Great advice from everyone and it is appreciated, now on to the heater core, aaagh.

I went through this same problem, its why I only have ONE windshield wiper right now. I took the original ones and threw them out, bought some new "premium" Rain-X blades, didnt fit. I tried just about every brand AutoZone had, nothing fit. Later I found out GM makes the ones that fit and well you know the deal now. I'm totally screwed, '84-'94 wipers suck.
