My 88 A4 was running great unitil I spent the last two days running around town in 100+ heat. I never use it for stuff like this, short trips, stop and go traffic, long idling at lights, traffic downtown is getting horrible. But I had to. By the end of today it was running so rich I could smell it, and was way down on power. I let it cool down, and thought about it. I just went out to the garage and slowly poured about half a can of Seafoam through the vacuum hose that goes to the brake booster while it was running. I took it for a ride, and it ran great, full power, no rich smell. I was amazed by the difference.
Is this loading up caused by clogging injectors in high mileage (162K) L98's or what? I had the same problem several months ago and used Seafoam to cure it. This is certainly easier and cheaper than a new engine, so I'm not complaining, just curious as to the cause and future prognosis.
