I just put some working bulbs in my hood lights but I noticed when I close the hood the lights never turn off and will only stay on and drain my battery. I looked for a hood switch that would turn the ligths off when the hood is closed but cannot find anything anywhere.
Does anyone know where the switch is or how these lights are suppose to turn off automatically? Or should I just put a manual switch in the line.
you can add a manual switch, get one of the roller switches used for table lamps and put in line, in the meantime, disconnect the light cables (unplug) for now..
Not sure about the 86 but it is probably a position switch like a mercury switch. I think the switch is built right into the light socket assembly and if you take it out and level it you can make it go on and off. You can compare the two lights for comparative operation. If it is defective replace the assembly.
It is a murcury switch. It is located in the light assembly. One of my switches has stoped working as well. Mine is a 86. I see MAD has them listed on there web site. They are not made anymore because of the murcury.
Thanks guys, now where exactly is this switch located in the light assembly and which side? The connector plug is on the drivers side behind the smog vapor can.
James: I believe the switch is part of the light assembly itself. You can remove the light assembly and see the little metal cannister that holds the mercury. On my 89, I just disconnect both connerctors for both lights. One connector is on the drivers side and the other on the passenger side.
