I just bought my first Corvette, a 1989 model. I did not receive an instruction book. Is there a way to raise the headlights without turning them on, say for washing them? Thanks for any help!
You can manually raise the headlights by turning a tapered triangle shaped **** at the bottom or top (depends on how you look at it) of the motor. It's the only thing on the motor that will turn. Takes a minute to get them all the way up. I just was mine by turning the headlights up. Wish mine came with an instruction manual.
You can get original, bonified owners manuals from Helm. I do not recall the cost, but the new ones are just like to originals from 89. The web address is: www.helminc.com
I have both the 89 original and the new one. Either of you gents want the "used" one for a fair price?
The owners manual answers the original question on this post
Yep, just turn em' on and wash them. You're not gonna kill the battery in the length of time it takes to wash. But... I will tell you that you *can* push the headlight **** in jusssssst a hair and it will turn off the headlights and not lower the buckets.
Step 1: Turn the headlights on, they open. Step 2: Turn the light switch back to the Parking light position, the headlights go out, but do not rotate closed. Step 3: Wash the thing.
The headlights won't rotate closed until the light switch is moved to all the way off. BTW - you may want to have the engine running when expecting the headlights to rotate, if the headlight motors are at all flakey the lower voltage available with the engine not running may be enough to cause problems with rotation...
