Jack, do ya mean you don't like them that much or don't need them? I figured they would bolt on pretty cleanly given all that's said about them.....talk to me!
I have the excellant fitting TPIS Headers that are coated as well. There is alot of Heat still. In fact I can tell when the engine compartment is heating up cause the front window starts to fog after 5 mins initially. The plastic covers for the wiring harness have suddenly gone brittle and are falling apart. The rubber bushings in the front A arms have also suddenly developed cracks. Is this because of age or alot of heat. You decide. PS, The Headers are NOT leaking.
Sounds to me like it's getting awful hot under your hood.....maybe it's not such a good idea afterall. ONe fella I know recommends just having someone polish the exhaust manifolds and putting in a Y pipe minus the precats and then a high flow cat....he says it will make a world of difference, be a hell of a lot cheaper, and eliminate the heat problem.....may do that....now....to find a guy that can polish the exhaust manifolds w/o putting a hole thru them.....
I am in the process of modifying my 88 L98 and headers is on the top of the list. In all my reading of what the guys at the forum have to say about headers, most of them say TPIS headers are the easiest to install and will give you plenty of plug clearance to boot. As far coated or non coated, I have read that coated would be the better choice due to heat and rust.
Good luck.
I have LPE Long Tubes(1"3/4)... Fit is nice..plug access on the passenger side is not. Even with the smog pump, and diverter valve GONE it's still difficult. I think it took an hour to do the plugs on the pass side...and some we're done underneath. Other than than, they're terrific.
i have them, first thing i got back in 89! Never had a problem with mine got the stainless steel ones!! Ran 13.9 with them and stock car! Plugs go pretty easy, some from top and other from bottom! Got SC and took them off and wrapped them with the header heater wrap....(due to the airfilter for the SC is right beside the header on driver side) I would def. recommend getting them!!
