Default 1990 Project

Well this is what's going on, I had a 350 4 bolt bored 40 over with Speed pro Hypereutectic pistons for my 1990 corvette L98 to replace my 2 bolt Pos (water jackets are clogged). Im going to go with a roller system 1.6 roller rockers, roller lifters and I came across a Vortech roller cam that came out of a boat which is only a little hotter than the stock. When I got this car it had iron heads on it im looking for a good deal on some aluminum ones but have no idea where to begin. So this is why im here, im just looking for any tips that anyone may give that has been in my situation. I have also seen many Tpis having major issues due to a hotter cam. This is why im not going much over stock Im planning to put out around 300-350hp at the rear wheels. Any ideas? Is a new chip going to be needed? Vacuum problems? Thx in advance for the Help

Need to know exactly what you have planned for this car, and the specs on the cam, and particularly what intake youre going to use. Also what tranny is on this car.

Because stock TPI isnt going to make the power youre looking to get, intake cannot flow the air. A cam close to stock isnt going to get there with TPI on it either.

Anytime you change the cam, a chip needs to be done.

Ya this car was not taking care of, the first time I took it off the lot 5 hours later it threw two rods. I had that pos 2 bolt put in it for the time being. Im finally getting around to putting something better into it due to the over heating problem. (Heads were clogged as well.) As for the cam I will post the stats asap I need to call the Machine shop tomorrow. I forgot to say I also removed all the smog and bored out the cat.

Your guess is as good as mine, I originally thought someone ran dex cool in it at first site, but later discovered that it was rust....chunks of rust. I have a bud down here that used to work for Nascar he advised that I just trash that block and heads and just run pure coolant for now on. This is a pretty common problem down here. Most of the time it was just Odessa Tx water alone. Like I said before it was not taking care of. I would also bet that this was a women's vett (not implying anything) but I found a large amount of long blonde hair throughout the car when pulling up the carpet to remove the blown bose speakers. I also found about 12 None lube condoms under the hatch floor matt =(.

Flush it real good(if its as bad as you say, take knock sensor out and drain it there), and run Distilled water with DEX Cool or your favorite brand of stuff. Never run straight coolant.

Well no point really I already pulled that out about a week ago and its sitting in my garage we have tried to flush that block out at least 6 times. It only runs for about 20 miles before heating up again. Im sick and tired of it, the knock sensor broke off in the block anyways =(.Ok well he was hesitant on giving me the info on the cam but this is what I got out of him. (Intake 220) (exhaust 214) 448 lift for the 1.6 rockers, spring from 80-100 pounds. ...He said he has some alum heads that will work for 1.2 grand 190 intake 202 exhaust.

Ah, you got your intakes and exhausts reversed.(cam specs & valve sizes). A 214 in/220 ex cam would probably need a new chip. Do you know the Lobe-Seperation? 112* seems to keep the computors happy. The lift on this cam is quite low, so it's probably an older design. $1200 will get you some nice new aluminum heads, so be aware of what you're buying. Good luck...
