Default Storage Question

I work overseas 8 -10 months out of the year, and am leaving my '96 with a buddy who will drive it once a month, make sure it is started frequently enough and make sure the tire pressure is happy, etc. Is there any advice or products that will help?

It probably wasn't the best idea to buy a car (last month) I will drive so infrequently, but I was tired of driving the family pud-knocker mobile around. I deserve a hot rod to drive around in when I'm home!

I'd do a synthetic oil change before you go to be on the safe side.

Thanks, I will. I'm off to the Middle East tomorrow afternoon.

Cheers.

Make sure your buddy keeps the fuel tank full to if it's getting driven so infequently (to avoid condensation in the fuel) might also consider putting a fuel stabilizer in (once a month for a 8-10 months might not even go through all the fuel originally in the tank.
Good luck.

Thanks - I will, have you heard of "Stabil" or something similar? I have a motorcycle buddy who suggested it.

Off to the Middle East via British Airways tomorrow - I bet good seats will be available!

Make sure he knows to let it get up to full operating temp when he starts it - just starting it and running for a few minutes would do more harm than good.

Takes my 94 ~15 min to get to operating temp in the summer, ~30 min in winter.

If you trust your buddy ehough, have him put 1/3-1/2 tank of usage on it once a month and top up the gas. That will be enough to keep the gas fresh and keep everything well lubricated.

If he's just going to run it long enough to warm it up, then use a fuel stabilizer.

Thanks for the advice. I will ask him to do so.

I'm off to Heathrow this morning, hopefully some mis-guided moron with a toothpaste and enema bomb won't kill me. I've only had my '96 for a month (my second 'Vette, first was an '85), and I love it! I'm not ready to meet 71 virgins yet, not until I can do some mods to the car.

I can't wait to get back and drive it more.

This forum has been great and very helpful.

Hell, we couldn't find 71 virgins around here if we ran an ad in the paper.

Enjoy your trip and stay safe.
