Default Follow up: Exhaust Experts Please Help!!!

I did an extensive search and could not find any real helpful info so here goes.

Does anyone know if the new Dynomax X Flo Muffler (flows 1400 cfm- enough for 636 loss free HP) will fit down the Exhaust Tunnel of an early (86) C4?

I call Tech Support and they told me that the dual 3 inch and 3 inch out is 25 inches long by 8 3/4 inches wide by 4 1/2 inches tall.

Would this width fit comfortably in where my Random Tech cat sits now? My car is at the shop and I have no way of measuring it right now.

I would love to run a dual 3" setup with the X muffler in the middle and Borla XR-1 3" race mufflers out the back.

Any knowledge on this subject is greatly appreciated.

TIA
Larry.

It should fit, the tunnel on my 1986 is 10" wide but the seat belt studs reduce the width to 8.5" near the back of the tunnel. The 4.5" in height will be tight but if you position it up as far as you can it should not hit the ground.

Follow up Post:

The X Muffler did not fit so we went with a 3" dual setup with x-pipe to dual borla XR-1 race mufflers. Can you say Loud???

I am going to try to get some pics and a sound clip of this setup some time tomorrow.

Hopefully some SPL metering on it too.

I let you guys know soon.

My mechanic that did the install said he would have to completely remove the seat belt studs to fit it. Not a great idea in my book.

Any comments from anyone on the sound?

In a few days when I can find my battery charger for my camera I want to get a video/sound clip of it driving and at WOT.

Will keep you posted.

420 Cube
11.28:1 compression
AFR 210 cc heads
Ported Miniram II

TPIS 700-702 cam:

248 intake 248 exhaust @ .050
.649 intake lift
.651 exhaust lift both with 1.6 roller rockers
The lift figures take into account the really tight .010 lash on the solid roller cam.
110 lobe separation

TPIS headers, dual 3" mandrel bent exhaust, custom xpipe and Borla XR-1 race mufflers.

There isn't any tuning done on this motor yet. The Accel gen 7 is still sitting in my garage.

Ron, thanks for the heads up on this thread Bro!

Goldvette, that sounds pretty sweet man! How is it to cruise around in traffic if you dont mind my asking? I'd like to know a little bit about your tranny and gearing. Like Ron said, I've got a 421 also but mine is built way-way on the tame side compared to yours

Like you, I was thinking my exhaust was choking the motor down also (I've got Hookers into a 3" RT cat, then 2 1/2 out thru my Flowmasters) but when i dyno'd it thru just the headers alone it only gained like 15 or 20 HP............I was shocked! It even got a little more torque too

Congrats on a nice sounding motor Bud!

Other than the idle, needing a little work in the first clip it sounds great. It would probably get a little loud for me in normal cruising....guess I'm getting old, but I can tell the motor sounds healthy !
