I think so. The $500 number assumes $130 for the transgo kit, $40 for a few add on's, $50 for fluid and filter and approx labor for 4 hrs or so. The B&M kit is much simpler to install, and costs less. It is not as enjoyable as the transgo. Transgo has progressively firmer shifts as you apply throttle. B&M jacks up the line pressure and locks the accumulators. Firm shifts all the time, even at part, light throttle, can become annoying.
Don't mean to hijack the post, but what about B&M short throw kit for 85 w/4+3? I can get one cheap, but don't know how hard to install, or whether it's worth the effort.
I had a B&M shift kit in my 88 with a 700R. The shifts were too hard at all speeds. I would chirp the tires in second every time at any RPM. My tranny blew within a year. I replaced it and had a transgo shift kit installed. The shifts are very firm only at WOT. That's when I need it. It shifts firm but does not bang at part throttle My tranny tech said the B&M is cheap and just raises the pressure. That can be tough on all your parts. He likes the Transgo.
