As everyone of you are aware the 84 has the crossfire system and this coming winter I plan on pulling the heads and replacing due to worn valve guides. My question is what heads would your suggest ? I was thinking to go with Elelbrock but have no clue to the size needed. I am not looking to increrase the horsepower and happy with 205.... yea I just enjoy the terrific fuel mileage this car gets and the handling is this cars high point.
If your not looking to increase the power, take the stock cyl heads down to a "known good and trusted machine shop" (this can be harder than it sounds depending on where you live).
1. Hot tank and clean them
2. Magnaflux (crack check) them.
3. Install new bronze guides (the real deal not that K-Liner crap)
4. 3 angle valve job (preferabaly with a Serdi or Newen but a skilled machinest with a seat grinder set is more than adequate)
5. Suface them
Should cost about $350.00-$400.00 if you don't need new valves or springs.
If just have to have or want brand new cyl heads buy a set of World Prouducts SRs or the Pro Topline stock replacement cyl heads.
A good choice would be the Edel head with 180cc intake and 70ish cc combustion chambers. I think the stock combustion chamber is 74 cc. Another good replacement is the stock replacements (SR) World Products heads.
