Default Jacking points

I need to work under the front of my vette (change O2 sensor). I know where to jack it up at, but where is best place to put a jack stand? Everything under there either looks fragile or like the stand will slide.

the axle would be fine for the rear of the car, but what about the front? where is a solid point for a jackstand?

When I did my o2 sensor I jacked it up put tire ramps underneath the tires. A very solid way to appy some torque to get the o2 sensor out. Another way is to put jack stands under the tie down hooks in the front or use the jack points on the rocker panel for the spare tire jack. Make sure you have good clearance on the rockers don't want to crack anything or pinch lines.

Hope this helps

If you look under the car in front of the marked jacking points along the lower facia, ytou will see that the frame rails turn inward just at the rear of the wheelwells. You can place jack stands along the frame rail about 4 to 6 inches from where the curve is. The rib in the center of the frame rail is part of the frame and is the welded portion of the two halves.

I have left my 87 up on jack stands for months with jack stands at that location.

For the rear, look at the rear end of the frame rails just past the rear jacking points . You will see where the rib has sort of boxed sections that are just inside of the frame corner. You can place jackstands at the boxed sections but be careful to avoid any lines in that area.

I put the jack a little bit behind the jacking points, then put the stands under the jacking points. Just do it slowly and look for any problems.

Default Jacking Trick

I like to Jack the car up square and not twist it. What I do is uses a 3X3 Timber on my floor jack and put it under the K-Member between the front wheels. I then put the jack stands under the timber on each side. Very Solid, did the clutch with it up like this. You can jack really high and the car doesn't creak a bit!!!
Good Luck,
Charlie
