New guy- 86L and ABS diode
I'm new to the forum, although I have had my 86L coupe (4+3 with ~99k miles) for a little over two years. I can't believe I didn't find this forum until late last week!! It's great and I've already learned much.
When I bought the car, it was getting the ABS error light. The guy promised to fix it- I got busy with other things and never got around to taking it back. Through this great forum I learned yesterday that the Bosch controller and plumbing was underneath the driver's side bin- what a discovery!! One thing struck me as odd- there was a connector in there with a diode jumping two pins with really old black (looked like duct) tape loosely covering it. I can't believe it left the factory like this! So the question- is it supposed to be like this? I checked all of the connections, reseated the diode and retaped- I still have the light after ignition cycles. I always thought I had a wheel speed sensor issue and have on my list to do (clean WSS's/check wires) but this diode just jumped out at me (really bad pun). I did a search, but could not find anything like this.
Sorry for the long post- I'll get some pictures up when I figure out how to do that!! Agsin, thanks for this wonderful forum!!

However, I would suggest you get a copy of the Helm Factory Service manual for your year of car. www.helminc.com is the OEM source.
Check the C4 Parts for Sale and eBay for used copies. They appear from time to time. I suspect the manual is out of print, currently. Hence, 2nd hand is the way to go.
The Haynes manual is the best of the worst, mostly for it's pictures. But the diags are utterly useless, and there are no schematics for electrical debugging.
