Default Transmission problems!!

Got the vette out yesterday to take a little ride went down to Chatsworth Ga then up the mountain towards Fort mountain State park as we we're going up I was watching the trans. temp halfway up it was at 226 pulled over and smoke started coming out on the passenger side it dumped fluid on the exhaust and probably a 1ft round spot on the ground.
We let it cool off the wiped what I could off the underneath and exhaust and headed off the mountain left it in neutral all the way down and the temp never went under 206 once I got on flat ground it cooled to 184.
But after 40 miles when i got close to home the temp went back to 222
pulled in the garage left it running and checked the fluid it was boiled no fluid just bubbles.
Now keep in mind during all this never had any issues with slipping still shifted nice and firm.I had noticed a small leak before but it only seemed to happen on curvy roads so I put it on a lift and fluid appered to be coming out the overflow so I pulled the exhaust and put a tube off the overflow down under the car.None of the fluid coming out yesterday came from the overflow tube!Anyone have any ideas I'm thinking its a cooler problem or something related.
Spec's on my car are 96 Lt-1 A4 completely stock 74,000 miles

Check the level of the fluid. If you added some lately, it may have been overfilled. This aerates the fluid. Heat and puking a puddle are consistant with overfilled. If the fluid had not been touched lately, and it is over filled, you could have a leak in the cooler resulting in coolant leaking into the trans.
If the fluid level is somewhat normal(less the puked fluid) lock up may have failed in the trans resulting in higher than normal temps.

Fluid and filter were changed about 300 miles ago I have not added any since the change! Why would the fluid boil at only 228 degrees and since I have a drain tube on the overflow and none of the fluid came from there where could it come from?Is it possibly pushing out the bottom of the dipstick?

Pull the 4 10mm bolts that hold on the torque converter shield. Look in the bellhousing area to see if the leak is in there. Most "gushers" come from the front seal area.

Was coming out the passenger side right above the pre-cat.When I opened the hood smoke was coming up around the dipstick!

Anyone know what temp ATF breaksdown to a boil at?My temp gauge was only at 222 when it boiled!
