Default A/C Fan resistors

I have a 1986 coupe that I am trying to figure out why my A/C fan only works on high. Obviously the high fan relay is working as its the only position the fan runs in. I pulled the resistor panel and measured the coils, no opens, they appear to be okay. Is there anything else to check? Coulod the actual switch be bad on the other two positions??

I just fixed this same issue on my '85. I threw parts at it until it was fixed.

First I changed the resistor, this did nothing. It still only blew on 'hi'. That was $20 donated to the General. Next I changed the relay and that did it. It now blows on all 4 speeds just like it should. The relay is located on the firewall below the blower, behind the passenger wheel well. Its a little tight to fit it on there, but it is a 5 minute job or less if all goes well. I put a little dielectric grease on it to help it slide into place. This part was $11.

The manual diagnostic says to look at the resistors and the relay if you only get 'hi' speed. 'Hi' speed works because at that selection, 12 volts is being sent directly to the blower motor.

Hope this helps.

Agent 86 you need to post the C60 Blower schematics for the poster. He has manual AC.

Most llkely as mentioned the Blower Motor Relay is bad.

If you pull the relay, use an ohm meter and on the relay measure from pin C to Pin E.
Should be zero ohms.

*******After looking at Agent 86's schematic, you should have zero ohms from pin B to E and not C to E. ***********

Called the local NAPA store and they said they could have a new relay by 1:00 pm today. So I decided to go check to see if I could bypass the relay and get the blower to work. Sure enough I did. Then I took the relay and did a little file job on the contacts and low and behold, fan now works in all positions. Saved myself $11.00.

I didn't think to do that. That's two 6-packs!

What I did was pull the cover off the relay then turn on the blower at the lower speed. Initially got nothing so I took a knife and pushed down on the contact bar, fan started. Pulled the relay out and could not find a file so I grabbed and pair of nail clippers with the small file, ran the file over the contacts a couple times and presto, fan works on all settings now. Sorry, Guinness cost more so I could only get three.
