Mark the timing groove on the damper with white chalk. Fill the groove with chalk and wipe off the excess. You should see a clear white line. This should be easily visible under the timing light.
If you still can't find it with the timing light. Add some extra chalk marks to the damper maybe 30 degrees before or after the timing mark to determine which way you need to go to see the actual mark.
