Default 4+3 Trans Kick-down question

The 4+3 trans in my 85 works great, but I would like to disengage the "kick-down" passing gear feature while in OD.

How can this be done?

Thanks

Having a new chip burned is the only way i know. The only OD feature i am removing is the automatic OD engagement when the car gets to temp. Wow, do i hate that feature

There are 2 ways that I know of, but one is better. You could unhook the TV cable, but I don't think if that's a good idea. The better idea is to take the ECM out and jump the 2 wires together that control the OD. I forget which 2 wires it is, but I learned about it in this website somewhere so search around. Once you wire them together the OD will be on as soon as you flip the OD switch regardless of throttle position or engine temp or gear. Does the 85 have the switch on the shifter or in the console? I know on the later ones the switch is in a weird spot for this conversion and many people prefer to relocate it to the console to avoid accidentally activating it. I did it to mine because the first gear switch went out (common problem) and the trans would sometimes not go into OD.

Yep,mines on the console.

To save the trans a little,I always engage the clutch when shifting in & out of OD.Seems to help.

In that case it's a piece of cake. Here's the link. It's pretty straightforward and it works great.
