Occasionally, the light comes on the dash that reads
""Passive entry system" I think.... something to that effect.
The battery has been dead in the fob for years and is not anywhere near the car.
The other day, the light came on and the hatch kept unlocking and locking on its own.... freaky.
I unplugged all the fuses related to that system from what I could find in the owners manual.
It finally quit and went back to normal.
Sometimes when you put the key in, the light will go off. It comes on at different times....
I am at a loss. She drives it daily and I dont want her getting stranded.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have replaced the drivers door switch, but that did not seem to have any effect.

I dont have my service manual with me
It may even be in the owners manual

I was wondering if it somehow has reset itself?
But then again, it shouldn't just randomly come on.
Thats whats killing me.... this stuff is great until a problem arises.
I hope someone else has run into this same situation.
Thanks for your suggestion.

It just comes on, and if you remove the key it sometimes goes off.
Its driving my wife nuts..... and you know about the "trickle down theory"... HELP!
There is no bypass, the only other way to disable it is to unplug it. It is deep inside the dash in the middle and near the top. The top pad has to be removed and will take you several hours. If you unplug it, you will loose your control of your electric locks on the doors. Of course you can look for a used receiver and replace it.

If it persists, I guess I wont have a choice but to start taking the car apart. Sometimes technology isn't so great.
Do the interior lights ever come on when going over bumps?

just like someone repeatedly pushing the button over and over.
It does it sitting still.
First, the passive keyless entry light comes on, then the show starts.
I have replaced the door switches 3 or 4 times, because they come apart and the interior lights start working on thier own.
When the light comes on, sometimes you can cut the car off and remove and reinstall the ignition key, it will go off.
Today on the way home from work, the wife said the light came on and the deck lid actuators started clicking for about 5 minutes as she drove.
Then the light went off and the clicking stopped.
I am terrified that I will have to take it to the GM dealership for a repair that I dont know if they can figure it out.
We got the car with only 6k miles on it, and now it has 70k.
I have spent 2500 on the car in the last 2 weeks.... new top, and tires and wheels.
Its killing me.
Wednesday is the wifes 50th birthday. I hate to spoil it with a rediciously high chevrolet dealer bill, that may or may not fix it.
I need some relief.

I think you're right that the dealer won't know how to fix either - they'll just start throwing parts at it. Might as well do that yourself and save labor charges...

Just got back from the dealership.
They have a "corvette Certified" mechanic with 20 years experience that I talked to.
He says that the system can not be disabled, It can be repaired.
They have a diagnostic they can run on the system. He says it sounds like a ground problem.
The bottom line is that the labor rate is 68 bucks an hour.
I take it in tomorrow.
That will give me time to go to the bank and get a loan
