Bad paint?
My 85's 4 month old paint job is developing cracks in the paint around the corners by the license plate (rear). Didn't have them before. Think it's the new paint being applied wrong or just a 20 yr old bumper and to be expected.
Hard saying, depends on kind of paint applied, over what is was applied etc. Sometimes they won't get the corners prepped well enough. You might ask the painter if he can fix the problem.
The rubber must be either primed with a special primer that has "elastic" properties or painted with the "Elastic" additive mixed in with the paint. It is to keep the paint from cracking when the rubber part experiences stress........
i do autobody as a trade, and the problem could be as simple as him not using the correct adhesion promoter, which you should always use on plastics, or crappy paint, prep, or somone could have bumped your car and given it stress cracks... can you send a pic? did a qualified individual paint the car?

A chevy dealer painted the car. I'll try to get a picture up tomorrow

I just damaged the paint on my front bumper (don't ask). The paint shattered
After researching the Dupont website, I find out we used the wrong primer when we painted the car a couple of years ago. The rest of the car is OK but that primer wasn't compatible (flex wise) with the urethane bumpers. Its what the paint shop ordered for us
i do a lot of work for dupont, and the paint, primer etc only stay pliable for a short period of time. with paint(aka topcoats) you can add a flex additive, but that only delays the evaporation of all the solvents that allow it to flex without cracking...after the flex additive has worn off, you cant flex the paint anymore, it will crack, the only paint i know that stays flexible is house paint
