Looking for a cam that will work well with a factory TPI setup.. It would be for a non-roller 350.. Looking for something somewhat inexpensive such as a summit cam or the like.. preferably something a little more aggressive than stock but compatable with a factory prom.. any suggestions?
It is very little more than stock, nice idle, good mpg, but aggressive when asked to be so. Does not require a chip mod. I think paid something like $80 for it.
I don't have lifters for it and the cam lube is already on the cam. I'll part with it cheap at $100 shipped includes cam card and instructions aswell in original box.

The LPE 211 is THE cam to get with a stock 350 TPI setup. It is a roller cam but will work in a non roller block with a retrofit kit from LPE.
I vote that this cam would need a tune in addition to the retro-roller
kit.
.
I think LPE makes a flat tappet version of this cam with much less lift on it . someone correct me if Im wrong but I could have swore I've heard of it before.

You are going to be hard pressed to find a cam with specs that are very different from stock that doesn't NEED a tune, what you can actually get away with is a different story.
When you guys say "need a tune" with this cam or that cam, are you saying that it needs a tune to run optimum, or that the TPI cars don't like aftermarket camshafts, and it will need some tuning to not have any driveability problems?
Other cars I have built have/had a pretty good adaptive system and the cars rarely had any driveability issues. Yes, they'd run better if FINE tuned for the new setup, but it was never a necessity...
Is the consensus that the TPI maf cars are not that mod friendly and require aftermarket tuning to avoid problems?
Just trying to do some research on my own possible non-roller TPI cam swap....Thanks.

I read this tuning requirement as an otimization of performance or fine tuning. So often CF'ers come in here looking for advise, making mods and then confused why the mods aren't running to their potential. So a constant reminder of tuning is complimentary to any engine mods.
It depends on how big of a cam you put in I guess. The more drastic the change, the greater your need for a tune. You should be able to get away with small changes without encountering driveabilty issues but you may not even end up with a significant increase in power.
