Hope this is easy
I was cruising just past dark,ready to detail/zaino for a parade tomorrow,when dash went black.Headlights on everything running good,black dash.Turned headlights off,backlighting is fine,turn em on,black dash.Im taking for granted its in the headlight switch or hopefully a fuse.Am I close?

So the headlights work as they should? But the dash lights go black with the headlights off, but the dash lights up with the headlights on? Possibly a ground problem. Perhaps jfb will address this.

May have something to due with the ambient light sensor in dash. Have you tried turning the headlight **** to increase dash light ??

Could be a bad dash,dash ground,or board needing solder.However,what is the battery voltage when this happens?One time years back,I had a bad alternator and when there was too much current draw,the dash went dark.It was really weird when it happened.A new alternator fixed it.

Guess she was ready for a bath.Just did 3rd coat of zaino,and thought Id try the lights,dash on fine,BUT,no adjustment on ambient lighting from the switch,so Im guessin thats prolly it,The reostat acting part of the headlight switch has a gremlin.2 more hrs to finish parade shine and the bed.
