Power steering pump and assorted engine accessories
So, I'm doing an engine rebuild right now. I'm eliminating the air pump while I'm at it, along with the rest of the emissions stuff, and I have a question. The stuff at the front of the engine is so bulky and interconnected I'm having a hard time planning what I'm doing with the new motor. Without the air pump there the engine won't look right. What have other people done with the front of the motor? I'm carbing the car and this leads me to another option. If I get a set of engine accessories from an earlier car, will they work? Basically, would a power steering pump from an earlier 350 with the C4 valve on it run the steering rack? Will an internally regulated earlier alternator cause me any problems? Basically, could I get a set of aftermarket street-rod accessories and use them in the C4?
Just use an air pump eliminator bracket and throw all the crap on the front of engine into the garbage
Something in my noodle says that an 84 can eliminate the pump and run a shorter belt
As for not looking right without the pump, i'll have to disagree.
Is that second pic yours? That one looks like they cleaned up the bracketry on the stock pump and ran a shorter belt. I may do that. Anyone else tried this?

The second pic is INSANITY's car, you can find him hanging out in the Drag Racing section.
