I remember that I´ve recently read that GM now produces performance rotors. Does anybody know how these differ from stock rotors and maybe the part numbers?
They are DuraStop "Performance" Rotors. Your Chevy store needs to have the "Performance" catalog to find the numbers since it isn't in the normal GM Durastop book.
The numbers on them are that they are 30,000 PSI tensile strength castings, and are drilled & slotted. All of them are directionally vained to pump air through the rotor. I don't remember which ones go where, just that the 9646 & 7 are the fronts.
Part #'s are:
18039646
18039647
18039636
18039637
I've had 1 crack under hard track usage, but on close inspection there was a casting void that got by the QA inspector. GM replaced both fronts under warranty, even though only one was cracked.
If you have some good brake cooling ducts, they should hold up just fine under track conditions. I didn't have mine installed when I ran into that particular problem. GM was really interested in getting the broken one back to find out what went wrong.
